The Rangeley Lakes Region Historical Society’s Outdoor Sporting Heritage Museum will host a preview party Friday, Aug. 3, for its exhibit of works by internationally known artist John Swan. Titled “Time On the Water,” the show features more than 20 of Swan’s original paintings, limited edition prints and books. Known for the diversity of his work, Swan’s paintings are featured in collections worldwide and have been reproduced in countless periodicals, journals  and books about his life. He takes inspiration from the scenery and people of Portland, Rangeley Lakes and the Bahamas, where he spends much time. His close observations of nature are executed with fluid brush work and a palette of highly contrasting lights and darks. The reception will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at the museum in Oquossoc. The exhibit will be on view for two months. For more information, call 864-3091 or 864-5647.
