LEWISTON —   Marcel G. “Butch” Martel, 65, of Turner, died peacefully Friday, July 27, at Central Maine Medical Center, with his family by his side, after a long illness.

He was born in Auburn, April 10, 1947, son of the late Roger R. and Lucienne Berube Martel. He was educated in local schools and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was married to Saundra LaBelle and owned and operated B & M Auto in Auburn. He previously had been employed for 15 years at the Auburn Water District.

Butch treasured his family and grandchildren and enjoyed working in is backyard, caring for his flowers and trees.

He is survived by his loving wife, Saundra of Turner; a daughter, Beth Martel of Leeds; three sons, Marcel Martel Jr. of Lewiston, Scott Martel of Lewiston and Brian Martel of Florida; seven grandchildren, Brittany, Courtney, Chauntea, Tesaira, Mary, Michael, Kyle; three sisters, Doris Gauthier of Auburn, Lucille Millet of Mechanic Falls and Nancy Lauze of Mechanic Falls; two brothers, Raymond R. Martel of Auburn and Donald Martel of Mechanic Falls; also many nieces and nephews.

Butch’s family would like to thank those who gave him loving care and compassion during his stay at CMMC, especially Suzanne Willson; and while at the V.A. Hospital in Togus, thanks to Jane Banks.
