LOVELL — Art deco is well known, but art duck-o?

Thirteen regional artists working in various media have donated original artwork —  created around carved wooden duck heads — to be auctioned Monday, Aug. 6, at a benefit for the Brick Church for the Performing Arts.

Specifically, money raised at the Art Duck-o Auction will go toward replacement of the church’s belfry.

A wide variety of duck-themed art will be put on the block—  from settings of ducks in a silvery marsh created by metal artist Rod Blood and painter Pat Thurston, to a quilted duck by fabric artist Martha Goldsmith, to a faux-Egyptian bas-relief carving of a duck “god” by Jonathan Crowe.

Other unusual creations have been contributed by artists Sam Ring, Steve Korth, Jesse Stevens, Treehouse Farms, David Neufeld and Sandy Bell. Images of some artwork can be seen online at www.lovellbrickchurch.org.

Other items up for bid include a pen-and-ink drawing, three decorated birdhouses,  and professional photographic greeting cards donated by Virginia Durr.

Storyteller and oral historian Jo Radner will offer an individually tailored storytelling performance for children or adults, as well as an hour’s recorded interview of family or community history. Susie Mosca has donated a duck-down comforter.

David Neufeld is the auctioneer. Birds on a Wire will provide music, and there will be stories and a duck joke competition.

The Art Duck-o Auction will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Brick Church for the PerformingArts on Christian Hill Road. Admission is free.
