LIVERMORE FALLS — Treat Memorial Library experienced a flood recently. On July 21, volunteer gardener John Beaudoin arrived to water all the new plants only to discover that a pipe had broken in one of the downstairs restrooms. More than two inches of water had already accumulated on the floor of the auditorium. Those who know how large a room it is will know that that is a lot of water.

The staff and trustees thank the following: John Beaudoin, Livermore Falls Fire Department, PuroClean of Livermore, Mr. Hubbard from Maurais & Sons, and Kenney Smith – all of whom helped save and clean up the library. Work is under way to repair and restore things to normal.

In the meantime, Elsie’s Re-Read Used Book Emporium will be closed until further notice. Very few books were water damaged. The rug in that room will need cleaning. Paperback books and VHS tapes are still available for sale upstairs in the library itself.

As far as the Summer Reading Program events are concerned, the Teen Voters meetings on Tuesdays are cancelled, but that doesn’t mean stop reading. The Younger Voters meetings on Thursdays will either be upstairs in the library or, weather permitting, outside.

The final celebration, “Comedy with Character” by Randy Judkins on Thursday, Aug. 16 at 5:30 p.m., will be held at Murray Hall, 69 Main St., across and down the street from the library. The Reading Program ends Aug. 4 and all paperwork must be turned in by Thursday, Aug. 9.

Congratulations to the winners of the first two contests of the Summer Reading Program. The three winners of the first contest, Which President?, had their names drawn from among those that had all the answers correct: Gabriella R., Tyler L. and Brooklyn. The second contest, How many Campaign Buttons in the Jar?, seemed to confuse people. Most just guessed how many buttons were in the jar, but the winner with the correct answer of zero was Caroline D. The other winners for the second contest were Allie F., Roni-Jo M. and Jarni H. When it came time to set up the jar, members realized that nobody owned any campaign buttons.
