Library Day at blueberry farm

WILTON — The annual “Library Day” will be held at the Wilton Blueberry Farm on Saturday, Aug. 4.

The proceeds of all sales of blueberries on that day will be contributed to the Wilton Free Public Library.

“The crop arrived early and is bountiful,” according to farm owners Irving Faunce and Jan Collins. “So, we decided to make this fund-raising event part of the Blueberry Festival rather than wait until later in the season.”

The farm is open Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pick-your-own berries are $1.60 per pound.

NEW VINEYARD — The Merry Plinksters, a newly formed group of ukulele players, recently entertained at a membership potluck supper of the New Vineyard Historical Society.

Thirty-five people enjoyed the supper, followed by a short meeting of the Historical Society, presided over by Sherwood Anderson, president.

After the meeting adjourned, those attending enjoyed a “sing-a-long evening” accompanied by ukulele players Loraine Norton, Elaine Wells, Becky Errington, Pam Moore and Marcia Cook led by the instructor, Mike Burd of Industry.

The group’s finale, The William Tell Overture, was played by ukuleles and kazoos, earning the group a standing ovation.

In 2010 Burd began offering a Uke 101 enrichment class through RSU 9’s Adult Education Program. In response to some participants wanting to continue beyond the initial four weeks, the idea for an ongoing instructional and fellowship group was formed. While the adult ed class is still offered each fall and spring the option to continue and join the group is offered to all. For more information on the group or classes, contact Mike through the Adult Ed office at 778-3460.
