SABATTUS — It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Fisher, 40, who unexpectedly went to heaven on Saturday, July 28, after recent heart surgery.

He was born Sept. 7, 1971, in Lewiston to Joseph E. Fisher and Doris Fisher.

Jim earned his bachelor of arts degree in behavioral science with a minor in criminology at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, where he met the love of his life, Tammy. Jim will be sorely missed by his fraternity brothers and sisters of Kappa Delta Phi who knew him as “Joebu.”

After college, Jim pursued a career as a police officer and then fell naturally into his role as a group home parent for five years, where he helped many boys become young men. He went on to spend the next 12 years as a counselor and will be deeply missed by his co-workers at Crisis and Counseling in Augusta, where he was a licensed alcohol and drug counselor.

Jim was an extremely proud papa to his children who are all involved in theatre. He was often found helping backstage and clapping louder than anyone from the audience. Jim loved a good movie, cooking, shopping, history and traveling. One of his most favorite trips was traveling to Hawaii

with his wife. Jim will be remembered for his stature as a big guy and then easy going mannerisms and louder than life laugh. He loved games and was very competitive, never letting his wife win at Scrabble.

Left to cherish his memory are his college sweetheart and wife of 19 years, Tammy and their children, Zachary 15, Sabrina, 11, and Gabriella 6. Also left to remember him are his mother, Doris Fisher; sister, Juanita Spencer and her husband, Steve and his sister, Veronica Fisher, all of Sabattus; brothers, Joe Fisher Jr. of Leeds and John Fisher of Sabattus.

Jim was reunited in heaven with his father, Joseph E. Fisher; father-in-law, John Dumont; and sister-in-law, Jean Fisher.
