LEWISTON – A “Dog Condo” built during the production of DIY Network’s 2012 Blog Cabin and recently donated by the home improvement channel and the Petco Foundation to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is being raffled off for an upcoming fundraiser.

Built by Anitra Mecadon, an interior designer and host of DIY Network’s Mega Dens and 2012 Blog Cabin guest renovation expert, the dog condo is a barn red condo featuring a removable white roof, an outdoor patio and a plexiglass sunroom. The condo also comes with pet supplies courtesy of Petco and signed autographs by Mecadon and her Mega Dens crew.

Tickets are available for $5 each or three for $10 and can be purchased at the Humane Society, the Auburn Petco or printed off their website at www.SavingPetsInMaine.org. The random drawing is taking place at the 16th annual Strutt Your Mutt Dog Walk & Pet Festival on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Petco in Auburn. All proceeds from the raffle directly benefit the Humane Society.

“It is an honor to be part of this truly unique experience; not only unique for our Shelter but for the residents of Maine,” said Steven Dostie, executive director.

DIY Network’s Blog Cabin asks Internet users and viewers to vote and blog on the design features of the ultimate vacation home and offers a chance for one lucky viewer to win it. Throughout the 2012 series, host Chris Grundy documents the miraculous transformation of a gorgeous 1880s cape-style farmhouse in Waldoboro.

Earlier this year, DIY Network viewers voted on various home improvement elements for this vacation home, including two dog house designs courtesy of a Petco sponsorship. The winning design, a “Dog Barn,” is a fixture at the renovated Waldoboro property. The “Dog Condo” was built as a special donation for the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society and was also featured in a June special, Posh Pets: Lifestyles of the Rich and Furry, on DIY Network’s sister network, HGTV.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 13, at 9:30 p.m. viewers can tune into the sixth season of Blog Cabin as well as enter on DIYNetwork.com/BlogCabin for a chance to win it.

The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is at 55 Strawberry Ave. To learn more about volunteering at the shelter or adopting an animal call 783-2311, visit www.SavingPetsInMaine.org or “like” www.facebook/GAHumane.
