LEWISTON — “Reaching Minds and Hearts through Music” is the theme for educational programs at Museum L-A for 5 through 12 year olds on Aug. 14 and 15. Youngsters will have the opportunity to tour the new “Power of Music” exhibit as well as learn about various aspects of music and make some music of their own.
On Tuesday, Aug. 14, as part of “Sound and Music,” 5-7 year-olds will experiment with sounds and learn how to turn them into music as they are introduced to a variety of instruments. Participants will make their own tambourine. Eight to 12-year-olds will focus on “Music Power” as they tour the exhibit, gather information and design circuit boards that test visitors’ knowledge.
On Wednesday, Aug. 15, the younger group will create a “Do It Yourself Orchestra” and the 8- to 12-year-olds will learn how the sounds of various musical instruments are related to music and how music can affect a person’s mood. The group will also have an opportunity to tour the new exhibit.
All programs will be held at Museum L-A, 35 Canal St., from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost to participate is $10 per day or $18 for both days. Preregistration is required. For more information, contact Joan Beal at 333-3881 or [email protected].
