One of the regrettable aspects of running for a political office is attack ads that come from organizations outside the state that spew half-truths. Currently, an ad is running by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce that takes former Gov. Angus King to task for his administration’s record.
Speaking as a businessman, I found King to be extremely approachable on matters that were of importance to my company. When he toured Geiger prior to his first election, he took the time to understand our operation, asked incredibly deep questions and remembered what he learned months and years later.
As governor, King championed business causes. He led international trade missions and advocated for Maine-made products. More importantly, he championed a quality public education, which fuels the business community.
I take exception to the ad from the U.S. Chamber, and would argue that King was a great spokesman for the state, and an advocate for its business community.
