POLAND — Mechanics Savings Bank has awarded a $1,000 Banking on the Future Scholarship to Poland Regional High School graduate Elijah Breton. He is the son of Elaine Breton-Thibodeau.

Breton will attend Ithaca College in the fall where he will enroll in the sports management, bachelor of science program. Breton is eager to begin his college career and stated, “I am looking forward to learning about the business and marketing of sports. I can’t wait to apply that knowledge and contribute to my community.”

From 2008-2011, Breton was a member of Poland Regional High School’s Community and Service Learning Club. In 2011, he volunteered at Clover Manor Nursing Home.

Breton was Poland Regional High School’s classco-president, student body representative and knight writer. The National Honor Society student was involved in speech and debate and drama, and brought home awards for each in 2012.

He was named 2012 Speech and Debater of the Year and received the 2012 Theatre Award. During his high school career, he also received the Clear and Effective Communicator Award, Knight Writer Award and the Co-Curricular Award. This year, Breton was recipient of the Bruce M. Whittier Scholarship, the Franco-American Scholarship and the Ithaca Leadership Scholarship.
