LEWISTON — Dementia Care Strategies Inc. will hold two sessions of the six-week Maine Savvy Caregiver Program for family caregivers caring for an individual with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia at home.

Both sessions will run on Wednesdays, Aug. 22, through Sept. 26. The first session will be held at Jay-Niles Library from 2 to 4 p.m. The second session will be held at Montello Heights in Lewiston from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. There is no cost to attend.

Participants will learn what dementia is and how it affects personality and behavior, develop a sense of confidence in caring for a person with dementia, gain skill in how to care for themselves, reduce the stress of caregiving and learn proven techniques for how to effectively interact with their family member and manage challenging behaviors.

The program is sponsored by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Aging and Disability Services with funding from the U.S. Administration on Aging.

Space is limited and preregistration is required. For information or to register, call Kathryn Pears at 751-8183 or via email at [email protected].
