LOVELL — She sings. She writes music. She plays bagpipes, fiddle, guitar, banjo,  harp and other instruments. She tells stories from her Celtic-American heritage.

On Thursday, Aug. 16, Jennifer Armstrong will interweave songs and stories at the Brick Church for the Performing Arts at its end-of-season concert.

She will present a new work, a performance of author Ursula Le Guin’s story, “Gwilan’s Harp,” appropriately accompanying the tale with harp music. Other stories and songs may offer opportunities for audience participation.

“I began my storytelling and instrument playing at a young age,” Armstrong said. “When I was 2 1/2, I told my first story, my version of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.” When I was 5, my sister and I made bagpipes out of balloons and tinker toys, but it wasn’t until I was 13 that I officially began learning to pipe.”

Since age 19, Armstrong has entertained and taught all over the country, including a performance at the National Storytelling Festival, as well as in Canada and Hong Kong. She has also been heard on National Public Radio and has seven recordings of music to her credit. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Brick Church on Christian Hill Road. Tickets at the door are $10 for adults/$5 for children 12 and under. For more information, call 925-1500 or visit www.lovellbrickchurch.org.
