I believe Maine is finally on track, thanks to strong leaders such as Lois Snowe-Mello. After years of budget shortfalls, an ever-expanding welfare system and high taxes, Maine is finally headed in a different direction.
Because of Snowe-Mello and her colleagues, the Legislature passed the largest tax cut in history when it approved the state budget by a two-thirds majority. The state’s attitude toward small business climate is improving with the passage of LD 1 (regulatory fairness and reform), and the creation of a small business advocate to help job creators navigate the bureaucracy.
Welfare reforms will set a five-year time limit and the system will be there to protect the most vulnerable citizens.
Workers Compensation reforms will put more money in the hands of injured workers, not lawyers.
