OXFORD — For the 15th year, the Hannaford store is providing a box where shoppers may drop off donated school supplies for local children. The annual program, held in memory of Alice Cornwall, is under way.

Alice Cornwall originally launched the program after she heard that some children in the area could not afford to purchase necessary school supplies. The donation box will be in place through August and the first part of September.

Maureen Mooney-Howard, director of the Education Exchange and coordinator of the program, hopes that customers, when shopping for their groceries, will buy a school item and drop it in the box as they are leaving the store.

The supplies will be collected and distributed to the students in all 10 district schools.

Individuals or community organizations who would like to participate should contact Mooney-Howard at 743-8914, ext. 5209. All checks should be made out to SAD 17 (attention Pack the Bus Program) and sent it to 1570 Main St., Oxford, ME 04270.
