Lewiston and Auburn has had its share of famous people through the years and among the list will be a young lady named Gail Liberty. Gail, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Liberty of 480 Center St., Auburn, is a first lieutenant in the United States Air Force. A member of the Sheppard AFB, Texas, she first handled a pistol 18 months ago, and up to now, she has won four matches, including National Women’s Champion, 22 cal. Pistol; Oklahoma State Women’s Champion; and the Southwestern Regional Women’s Championship pistol shooter. For her achievement and for bringing high recognition to the Air Force, Lt. Liberty was presented the Air Force Commendation medal by the commander of Sheppard AFB, and she recently received a personal letter from Gen. Curtis E. LeMay, Air Force Chief of Staff.

Radio stations WBLM and WLAM are the most popular local stations among the listeners in Androscoggin County. Mike Lawrence, operations manager at WLAM, said, “When it comes to out-of-town buyers, these are the figures that they want to see. Our local customers aren’t always that concerned about ratings. But when Delta Airlines calls from Atlanta, they want to know the ratings. They’re not as familiar with the station.”
