The Auburn Middle School “Tortoise” and “Hare” won honors at Junior Solar Sprint held at the Owls Head Transportation Museum recently. Fifty-three teams raced along the 20-meter lanes. The “Tortoise,” designed and built by eighth-graders Ezra Thomas and Harley Lombard, garnered the greater attention: first place for technical merit and kids’ choice (tie), and second place for speed and innovation (tie). “Hare,” built by Alex Breton and Zach Johnson, earned second for technical merit (tie) and third for craftsmanship (tie).
