DIXFIELD — The annual Dirigo Alumni banquet was held on June 16 at the Dixfield Middle School. Alumni members greeted 86 classmates and guests. A potluck supper was served. Classes from 1942, 1952, 1962 and 1972 were honored.

Albert Spaulding and Carolyn (Ames) Gill represented the Class of 1942; Alton Arsenault, his wife Beverly and Peggy (Hanson) Whitney, the Class of 1952.

Betsy (Norris) Ferguson, Muriel (Bowie) Batcher, Beverly (Lane) Jones, Carole (Arsenault) Foley, Adelia (Berry) Thurston, Clara (Briggs) Varney, Juanita (Welch) Briggs, Joyce (Morse) Austin, Sheila (Mercier) Wheeler, Richard Caron and Charlene (Reynolds) Farrell represented the Class of 1962.

The Class of 1972 was represented by Norma (Swett) Noyes, George Wheeler and Joann Brown.

All spouses were invited as well.

Classmates who traveled were from New York, Ohio, Florida, Tennessee, New Hampshire and Indiana.

Charlene Farrell was elected vice-president of the alumni.

Former French and music teacher Mrs. Nat Weston, who is 99 years old, was accompanied by David Young (’60). Members were asked to relate a nice memory of Mrs. Weston. Nancy Mason (’67) commented she was married in Mrs. Weston’s home. Pam Spaulding Newton (’67) and her brother Forrest (’70) commented on her music and French classes.

The honored classes were asked to give a brief of their class.

Albert Spaulding (’42) stated that 15 members were in his graduating class. Charlene Farrell (’62) stated 33 graduated in her class. The Class of 1962 was the last class that attended Dixfield Regional High School. She also stated that they have seven members of their class who have passed away. The class gave a $175 donation to the alumni.

A letter was read from Ashton Dunham (’42). It was reported that the alumni association is the biggest contributor for scholarships than any of the schools in the area.

President Betty Stearns read a letter from former Dixfield resident Sue Driscoll Nolan (’67). Her family lived here during the late 1950s and early 1960s. She told how her family lived on North Street. She had fond memories of their years in Dixfield and she honored her brother David, who died April 20.

A motion was made to have the banquet changed from the third Saturday in June to the second Saturday in June due to conflict with high school championship games.

The oldest class member was Dorothy (Berry) Mason (’36). The youngest members were Julie (Arsenault) Reid and Terri (Park) Cox (’77).

The 50/50 was won by Shelia (Mercier) Wheeler. She, in turn, gave it back to the alumni.
