FARMINGTON — Thelma Gross Smith, 89, a former resident of Jay, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Orchard Park Nursing Home.

She was born Dec. 13, 1922, in Livermore Falls, the daughter of Horace H. Gross and Rosella L. (Bergeron) Gross. Thelma was a 1940 graduate of Jay High School.

On April 4, 1941, she married her husband of 55 years, Roderick K. Smith. He passed away March 14, 1997.

Roderick had gone to Connecticut to work and Thelma joined him and worked briefly at the Hartford National Bank and Trust during their time there. She later went to work for Key Bank in Wilton and Dexter, retiring as assistant manager of the Dexter branch in 1984.

Thelma enjoyed flowers and gardening, but her biggest joy was the times spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Terry Smith and wife, Priscilla, of Jay; grandsons, Christopher Smith of Richmond and Roderick K. Smith of Eustis; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband; parents; and siblings, Norman Gross and Shirleen DiSotto.
