FARMINGTON — Selectmen have accepted the bid of $100,465 from Freightliner-Western Star of Maine for a 2013 Freightliner tandem-axle truck.

It will replace a 2004 dump truck that burned in February.

With plow setup and new dump body, it will cost $130,985, Public Works foreman Denis Castonguay said Thursday. An electronic sander control lost in the fire will also be replaced, he said. The truck is a model 114SD.

The insurance payment for the burned truck chassis was about $16,000. The rest of the money for the new vehicle will come from the Farmington Public Works equipment reserve account, Castonguay said.

He and shop manager Greg Soule reviewed several bids for a new truck. The lowest was $99,745, not including related equipment, and did not meet specifications, including having a smaller engine, Castonguay said.

The highest bid was $187,102, which included a complete plow package with dump truck.

In other business Tuesday, selectmen set a special town meeting for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at the Farmington Community Center. Voters will be asked to consider rezoning a section of the Franklin Avenue area from village residential to village business.

Townspeople will also be asked to adopt a Property Assessed Clean Energy Ordinance that would let eligible homeowners and businesses take out low-interest loans with a state program to make homes and businesses more energy-efficient.

There is no liability on the town’s part through this program. Each town has to have adopted the PACE ordinance that would let residents participate, if eligible.

The board will hold its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at the community center.
