LEWISTON – Financial fraud and elder abuse affect thousands of Mainers each year. Those nearing retirement are particular targets for scams. A free seminar on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Ramada Inn, Pleasant Street, will address how to spot a scam and how to stay safe.

Public session will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. A train-the-trainer session will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Refreshments and materials provided. Space is limited. To register, call SeniorsPlus at 1-800-427-1241.

Community partners are invited to stay for a special train-the-trainer session immediately following the presentation to get more details on fighting fraud.

Lead trainer is Susan K. Arthur, an associate director of the FINRA Investor Education Foundation. She manages the foundation’s Investor Protection Campaign to reduce the incidence of investment fraud among investors.

The event is sponsored by FINRA Investor Education Foundation, Maine Association of Area Agencies on Aging, SaveAndInvest.org, State of Maine Office of Securities and SeniorsPlus.
