LEWISTON — On Friday, Aug. 31, the public is invited to take a walk in downtown Lewiston and Auburn to visit art gallery spaces, take in live music and connect with their community.

Art Walk Lewiston Auburn, scheduled from 5 to 8:30 p.m., will showcase works  by area artists, with photographer Daniel J. Marquis as the featured artist. The walk is held monthly from May through September with artwork displayed in  multiple downtown venues, including vacant buildings.

Marquis’ interest in photography was sparked by his love of nature and the outdoors. “I have been an avid bird watcher for some 20 years and I have been kayaking for the last 10 years,” he said.

“Living in central Maine gives me access to all the varied and magnificent habitats and scenery that Maine has to offer — from the rocky coast with its picturesque fishing villages, to the inland lakes and mountains, and, of course, Maine’s famed North Woods,” he said.

Marquis especially likes nature close-ups and landscapes. “Landscape photography allows me to show the grand picture, the scenes that people pass daily, but may not see,” he said. “With my close-up images I try to illustrate the drama, patterns and colors that nature offers to those who are willing to take the time to look for them.”

As part of the August Art Walk Lewiston Auburn the Veayo Twins will perform at 6 p.m. in Dufresne Plaza, adjacent to 84 Lisbon St. Rain site: Callahan Hall, Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St.
