FARMINGTON — Virginia Lucile Kyes Di Tata, 90, a resident of Orchard Park Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Jay, was taken by the hand by her husband, Joe, and passed from this life dancing with him to their favorite song, “Stardust.” She danced to Heaven on Aug. 19, with her loving daughters by her side, who held her hand as she danced.

She was born Dec. 16, 1921, in Falmouth, the daughter of Howard Ernest and Lucile Annette (Thomas) Kyes. She was active in basketball, class plays, chorus and played the cello in the school orchestra.

She attended Auburn Maine School of Commerce in Auburn, and returned to work in the family business the Kyes Insurance Agency in Wilton. During World War II, she served her country as a WAVE in the naval reserve from May 1943 to February 1946. She worked in the Bureau of Supplies and Accounts, Navy Department in Washington, D.C., as an auditor and corresponding clerk.

Upon her discharge, she returned to work for the Kyes Agency. On June 4, 1947, she married Joseph Anthony Di Tata of Jay. After having her own insurance agency for a few years, she joined her husband in his pizza and Italian sandwich business until they retired in June 1983.

Virginia was a proud member of the George Bunten Post 10 of Livermore Falls, a life member of Lane-Dube AmVets Post 33 of Jay, and also a member of the WAVES Organization.

She enjoyed collecting and trying new recipes, reading word puzzles and music of all kinds. She was an excellent seamstress and made her own clothes and clothes for her daughters when they were young.

She also loved to watch sports and cheered for the Red Sox and when the Army-Navy Game was on, she would bet a $1. with her husband, Joe, as to who would win, as he served in the Army.

Virginia is survived by her two daughters, Holly Witt of Harmony and her husband, William and her daughter, Vicki Souther of Livermore Falls; she has five beautiful grandchildren, Rebecca Dube Garland of Virginia, Jodi Dube of Georgia, Anthony Dube of North Carolina, Jasmin Souther Eno of Colorado, and Joshua Souther of Livermore Falls; she proudly would announce that she had seven great-grandsons, enough for her own basketball team, Nicholas and Jack Garland, André and John Dube, Kyle and Brody Souther and Kellen Eno; she is also survived by her sister, Maxine Scott; two stepgreat-granddaughters, Kayleigh and Sareigha Witt; stepgreat-grandson, Alexander Witt; and several nieces and nephews.
