FARMINGTON — The second annual Franklin County Children’s Task Force’s chocolate festival has a sweet focus.

“We have a plethora of chocolate,” said Renee Blanchet, executive director of the Children’s Task Force.

During the evening, chocolate goodies from local bakers and businesses, free champagne, heavy appetizers, local entertainment along with a cash bar will be offered. Food will be served throughout the night, she said.

The festival is planned from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Emery Art Center on the campus of the University of Maine at Farmington.

The festival is a fundraiser to benefit the organization’s school-based programs such as bullying prevention, a teen pregnancy program called Baby Think It Over and violence prevention, she said.

It’s an opportunity to focus on local youth art displayed throughout the art center. Luke Pane will perform as will the Hardy Family, a local musical group, she said.

It’s also an opportunity to highlight what the Task Force does throughout the year and to interact with staff and board of directors, she said. The organization’s volunteer of the year will also be named.

The festive, elegant, gala event is a great date night for parents or an opportunity for people to get out, mingle and meet others, Blanchet said.

“As someone at the event last year said, ‘I don’t feel like I’m in Farmington, Maine. I feel like I’m in a fancy gallery in Soho.’ That says it all,” she said.

Tickets are available at the door or in advance at Tranten’s Grocery Store or the Calico Patch in Farmington. The cost is $30 per person or $50 for a couple.
