FARMINGTON — Shirley Richard Ramsdell, 83, of Jay, died early Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Sandy River Center.

He was born in Farmington, March 29, 1929, the son of Shirley M. and Effie (Crandall) Ramsdell. He was educated in the schools of Farmington.

He worked for the Hollingsworth and Whitney paper mill in Winslow for many years. He enjoyed raising and caring for animals, working in his garden and watching television. He married Jacqueline Gullifer on Sept. 5, 1953.

He is survived by a son, Byron Ramsdell of Jay; daughters, Cindy Veilleux and husband, Lee, of Livermore Falls, Candy Hewey and husband, Myron, of Skowhegan and Pamela Demaray and husband, William, of Livermore Falls; grandchildren, Samuel Ramsdell, Mathew Veilleux and wife, Sarah, Jacqueline McLaughlin, Mykel Hewey, Farrah Poirier and husband, Daniel, and Shawn Demaray; great-grandchildren, Samuel Ramsdell, Brendan Veilleux, Brody Veilleux, Christopher McLaughlin and Chad Poirier.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Jacqueline Ramsdell in 1962; sisters, Irene Swift in 2007, Gladys Fraser in 1989, Thelma Ramsdell in 2009 and Winona Davis in 2008.
