AUGUSTA — Cora Elizabeth Reade Murray, 90, of Hallowell, died Aug. 22, in Augusta.

She was born May 30, 1922, in Weare, N.H., daughter of Roy N. Reade and Olive Wood Reade. She was predeceased by sisters, Beatrice Reade Johnson and Blanche Reade Noss.

Cora was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who loved her family and enjoyed life. Cora had many lifelong friendships.

Cora grew up in Weare, N.H., graduating from Weare High School in 1940. She moved to Maine after marrying (Jan. 3, 1942) her husband, George of 57 years. They retired to Newport in 1982, where they had summered for many previous years at their beloved camp at Lake Sebasticook.

Cora was the center of her family and friends, gathering those around her to “LIVE, LAUGH and LOVE.”

Cora was predeceased by her husband, George L. Murray, in 1999.

She is survived by six children: five daughters, Bonita Hahn of Yarmouth, Lorraine and her husband, Walt Shackford, of Rochester, N.H., Paula and her husband, Ed Englehart, of Dixfield, Linda and her husband, Jim Murphy, of Blue Hill and Pamela and her husband, Frank Howe, of Farmingdale; and one son, George and his wife, Sharon Murray, of Augusta. Cora is survived by 14 grandchildren,12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Cora was predeceased by a son, Quintin, and a daughter, Baby Faye.
