PORTLAND — After performances in Las Vegas and two weeks of shows in London, Ray Harrington will return to the Portland Comedy Connection in September to record his first live stand-up comedy album.
A Portland native, Harrington got his start on-stage at the Comedy Connection when he was named Portland’s Funniest Professional in 2010. Just a few years later, he has opened for comics Dave Attell and Maine’s own Bob Marley, was invited to perform in the Las Vegas World Series of Comedy and has appeared in clubs across the country.
Harrington, who favors the absurd and the uncomfortable, will record his “One Night In Maine” CD at 8 p.m. performances on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7-8.
“When I was asked to record this CD, I couldn’t imagine doing it anywhere else,” Harrington said. “I may not live here anymore, but it’s still home and I want to hear that Maine crowd on the album. Mainers know how to laugh.”
Rich Pickford, manager of the Comedy Connection, described Harrington as “a seriously funny comic to watch.”
“I’m really happy to have Ray’s CD recorded here at the club,” Pickford said. “We always like to develop young comics and seeing Ray grow has been a lot of fun — not that he needs to grow; he’s a 7-foot tall giant.” (Harrington says he’s 6 feet 7 inches tall “or as car rental agencies call me, ‘that guy who never fits in cars.'”)
