POLAND — Cecil Thayne “Skip” Hodgdon, 75, passed away at his home after a valiant battle with cancer on Aug. 25.

Skip was born on Oct. 28, 1936, in Hermon, to Thayne and Guyla (Byers) Hodgdon. He was a graduate of the class of 1953 at Bangor High School. He married the former Patricia Yokell on June 28, 1958.

He was affiliated with Masonic Organizations and Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the National Water Well Association and New England Ground Water Association.

A lifelong motor sports enthusiast, Skip raced on horse tracks at fairgrounds and at many tracks in Maine, including Oxford Plains Speedway.

Skip acquired the family business, Hodgdon Well Drilling, in 1956, and expanded it to  include a fourth generation. Recently, he had a barn dedicated in his name at Robert’s Farm Preserve, an educational facility for children in Norway.

Survivors include his wife of Poland; three daughters, Kathy Williamson and companion, Steven Dillon, of Auburn, Johanna Barnett and husband, Steven, of Gardiner and Cindy Hodgdon of Minot; and two sons, Michael Hodgdon of Sabattus and Scott Hodgdon and companion, Pam Luce, of Poland. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jason Torrey, Joel Torrey, Thomas Bowie, Taylor Hodgdon, Tate Hodgdon and John Williamson; and great-grandson, Wayland Bowie.

He is also survived by four sisters, Thaila and husband, Charles Berry Sr., of Corinth, Gail Bagley of Newport, Guyla and husband, Richard Eaton, of Levant, and Faith and husband, Andrew Chase, of Brewer; three brothers, Leonard Hodgdon and wife, Barbara, of Peekskill, N.Y., Blaine Hodgdon and wife, Wanda, of Auburn, Jeffrey Hodgdon and wife, Pamela, of South Paris.

He was predeceased by daughter, Deborah Lee Hodgdon and a brother, Chalmers Gene Goodwin.
