BUCKFIELD — The town will celebrate Labor Day with events Saturday, Sept. 1, and Monday, Sept. 3.
The Notre Dame Cobras football team will play from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the field behind the town office to support of the Buckfield Rescue Association. Donations will also be accepted at at the village bridge from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The Rock ‘n’ Roll parade kicks off at the Buckfield Junior/Senior High School at 10 a.m. Monday and ends at the Town Office. There will be floats, Kora Temple Shriners cars, antique and stock autos, motorcycles, children’s decorated bikes, horses, veterans and dignitaries. McGruff the crime dog and Smokey Bear will join public safety vehicles in the procession.
After the parade the football field will hold a zumba dance exercise and the band Skosh will play from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Many vendors will be set up in the field. Several kinds of foods will be available as well as many items for sale.
The Zadoc Long Free Library and the Buckfield Fire Rescue Station will hold open houses from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, the same time as the Buckfield Historical Society holds a white elephant sale.
The annual Duck Race starts around noon Monday in the Nezinscot River. Ducks will be for sale along the parade route.
