AUBURN — Sylvio Alfred Royer of Auburn, “headed for the hills” one last time to be with the Lord, Sunday, Aug. 26, at The Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, two days before his 86th birthday, surrounded by his loving family.

Sylvio “Yo” was born in Auburn, Aug. 28, 1926, the son of Alfred and Lillian ( Poisson) Royer. Sylvio was a Navy seaman and fought in World War II.

“Yo” worked at the Pepperell Mill for many years before becoming a meat cutter at the IGA on Main Street in Lewiston. Afterwards, he was employed as a meat cutter at Bourque’s Markets on Pine and Sabattus streets for 47 years, where he had the privilege of working alongside his brothers, Roger and Donald on a daily basis. Prior to retirement two weeks ago, Sylvio was still actively employed working 3 days a week.

Mr. Royer enjoyed the camaraderie of working, spending time with his family, hearing about the achievements of his 6 grandchildren and following the Yankees and the Red Sox. He was the beloved and devoted husband of the late Anita (Grivois) Royer.

He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Madore and husband, Maurice, of Lewiston; son, Lee and wife, Denise, of Marshfield, Mass.; brothers, Roger and wife, Terry, of Harpswell and Donald and wife, Jackie, of Sabattus; grandchildren, Christopher Madore of Waltham, Mass., Erica Madore of Auburn, Jillian Begin and husband, Patrick, of Martinez, Ga., Matthew Royer of Quincy, Mass., Jenna Royer of Vail, Colo., and Brad Royer of Killington, Vt.

Sylvio was predeceased by Anita his wife of 62 years; mother, Lillian; father, Alfred; and brother, Roland.
