JAY — Police arrested a Livermore Falls man on three felony counts of forgery and three felony counts of theft by unauthorized taking after he cashed three stolen checks totaling more than $5,000.

Michael B. Stanchfield, 42, was arrested Wednesday by Detective Richard Caton following an investigation of the three checks cashed at Otis Federal Credit Union in Jay, police Chief Larry White said.

The blank checks were reported stolen from a Livermore residence.

When Stanchfield cashed them they were made out to him, White said. Caton obtained photos of someone cashing the checks and matched them with photos of Stanchfield from a prior conviction.

Stanchfield was taken to Franklin County Detention Center where bail was set at $10,000 cash. Due to his probation from another conviction, he is being held without bail, White said.
