SUMNER — Resident Ted Dawicki continued pressing selectmen Tuesday night about property assessments he says are unfair.
Michael O’Donnell, assessor for the town, told Dawicki in an email there was one property where a market adjustment of 50 percent was given but his office did not do it.
Dawicki questioned who did. He asked why people were asked to talk to O’Donnell about their assessments since it was selectmen who have the final say.
Selectman Wally Litchfield, acting as chairman in the absence of Marianne Haxton, told Dawicki he was coming in monthly with the same issues and Dawicki said he would continue until he got some answers.
In other business, fire Chief Bob Stewart informed the board he was applying for a $5,000 grant to get more gear for firefighters.
Code Enforcement Officer Sid Abbott gave reports on several septic concerns. The most pressing is the lack of a system on the Edwards property on Barrows Road. Abbott said he has heard nothing from Community Concepts, which was going to help, and is about ready to condemn the property.
Selectman Kelly Stewart suggested writing a letter and giving the owners until Sept. 11 to tell officials their intent.
Road Commissioner Jim Keach said a John Deere grader was purchased for $12,500 at the surplus warehouse in Augusta.
Keach also said he put up a sign on Homestead Way and a resident there asked to put up a private road sign.
Town Clerk Susan Runes requested that Keach tell people to order the signs from the office and pay for them up front.
Keach said the Road Committee had identified roads on which the Maine Department of Transportation could install traffic counters so officials could prioritize those needing work.
Administrative Assistant Cynthia Norton said Mark Silber is going to help her take over the town website.
Appointments made were: Dorothy Lee Berry, health officer; Ralph Dunn, Dunn Fund administrator; Stephen Peters, Planning Board alternate; and James Gammon, Planning Board member.
The board accepted, with regret, the resignation of Kathleen Emery as the Planning Board alternate.
Emery and Stewart have applied for the job of Emergency Management Agency director.
