RUMFORD — Lisa Gertrude Bilgenroth Kreckel, 88, of Rumford, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 24, at home with her family by her side. Lisa was lovingly known as Oma.

Lisa was born in Hamburg, Germany, March 29, 1924, to Friedrich Carl

Bilgenroth and Liesgreet (von Linné) Bilgenroth. Lisa married Alfred Christian Kreckel on July 18, 1942, in Hamburg, Germany. They shared an exciting adventure through life together for almost 61 years until Alfred died on March 16, 2003. They started their life together in Germany, but moved to Newfoundland, Canada, where they built a house together. They next moved to Pennsylvania, where they remained for many years. They

also lived in New Jersey, and Florida.

Lisa had to learn English as she went along after arriving in Newfoundland. She was a brave, courageous, loving and intelligent woman who loved her family. She was talented in gardening, needlework, knitting, crocheting, cooking and pottery. She loved life and provided her friends and family with many hours of laughter. Lisa loved helping others and telling stories.

Lisa is survived by her children, Jürgen and wife, Linda, of Saylorsburg,

Pennsylvania, Gerd and wife, Cheryl, of Vorhees, N.J., and Dieter and wife, Jennifer, of Rumford; six grandchildren, Vanessa Kreckel, Jeffrey Kreckel, Lisa Kreckel, Deirdre Kreckel Lewis, second lieutenant Brendan Kreckel and Michael Kreckel; and four great-grandchildren, Landon Smith, Madison Kreckel, Jayson Kreckel and Avery Lewis.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Gerd Bilgenroth and Helmut Alwardt; and her daughter, Ute.
