PARIS — Two men facing sex charges pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Oxford County Superior Court.

Kevin P. Collins, 53, of Brattleboro, Vt., faces two counts of gross sexual assault and one count of assault from an incident on May 5. The girl named in the affidavit is younger than 12 years old.

Gary F. Michaud, 56, of 83 Loring Road in Buckfield, is charged with unlawful sexual contact and criminal threatening.

Collins was arrested Thursday in his hometown by Maine State Police Trooper John Haney, who said the arrest came from a referral from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.

Collins has been in custody at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn since late June. On Tuesday, the court lowered his bail to $2,000 cash. He agreed that if released, he would live with his sister in Vermont, far from the alleged victim.

If released, Collins won’t be allowed contact with children younger than 16 except family members.

Michaud is accused of sexually abusing a boy under 12 years last December.

According to a report by Lt. Brian Landis of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Michaud threatened the boy and told him not to tell anybody. The report said the boy’s mother reported the crime, which he said occurred in September 2011.

Michaud can have no contact with children younger than 16 years.
