PORTLAND — fun. will kick off the REVERB Campus Consciousness Tour on Oct. 31 at State Theatre benefiting Mainers United for Marriage, a broad coalition of groups and people working to win the freedom to marry for same-sex couples in Maine.
Tickets, $30 in advance and $35 the day of the show, go on sale at noon Friday, Sept. 7, and will be available in-person at the Cumberland County Civic Center Box Office, charge by phone at 1- 800-745-3000 and online www.statetheatreportland.com
The show will help raise awareness for the Nov. 6 citizens’ initiative vote to allow same-sex couples to receive a marriage license in the state of Maine. Pre-sale tickets will go on sale tomorrow, Sept. 5 at http://fun.artistarena.com.
The tour, which sees fun. partnering with the nonprofit group REVERB and Ben & Jerry’s, will hit an array of colleges across the country this fall. The tour is both a concert and social-cause campaign, aimed at educating and mobilizing students to take positive action. This CCT’s social focus will be for LGBTQ equality. (LGBTQ is a widely used acronym that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning/queer.) In addition, the tour itself will be as Earth-friendly as possible.

fun.’s album “Some Nights,” recently reached RIAA gold certification status for sales in excess of 500,000. The album sales were fueled by the success of “We Are Young (Feat. Janelle Monáe),” which spent six weeks atop Billboard’s “Hot 100,” earning 5x RIAA platinum for sales in excess of 5 million, and “Some Nights,” the title track from the album, which followed the No. 1 success of “We Are Young” by topping the airplay charts at alternative radio outlets nationwide, placing fun. alongside Green Day and Alanis Morissette as the only three acts in alternative chart history to score consecutive No. 1’s at the format with their first pair of singles. That track was also recently certified platinum for sales in excess of one million. “Some Nights” originally entered Billboard’s “Top Current Albums” chart at No. 2 upon its February release, while also making a top three entry onto the Billboard 200.
