LEWISTON — Kelsey Dumond did all the heavy lifting, scoring both goals in the first half as Lewiston landed on Mt. Ararat with a 2-0 victory in a field hockey game Wednesday.
Dumond’s first goal was unassisted, but Jenessa Talarico had a hand in the Dumond’s second goal with an assist.
The Blue Devils (2-0) owned the playing field, outshooting the Eagles (0-2), 23-5. Lewiston goalie Ravon Palmer made five saves.
Dirigo 2, Hall-Dale 1
DIXFIELD — Ellie Wainwright turned a Grace Hebert feed into the winning goal with five minutes left in the game, allowing Dirigo to shake off Hall-Dale with a 2-1 victory in a field hockey game Wednesday.
The Cougars (1-2) got on the board first when Hebert set up Brittany Lapointe’s goal.
But the Bulldogs responded with a tying goal when Shanay Gilbert used a Nicole Pelletier pass and scored.
Dirigo goalie Amanda Dolloff got the win and had a light afternoon in net, making one save.
Winthrop 8, St. Dom’s 0
WINTHROP — Lauren Kaiser registered a hat trick while four other teammates also scored as Winthrop cruised to a 8-0 victory over St. Dom’s in MVC field hockey action Wednesday.
Shauna Carlson contributed for the Ramblers (3-0) with two goals, while Mary Claire-Blanchard, Emmah Spahr and Rachel Ingram also tallied to complete the scoring.
Alyssa Arsenault stood silent in the cage for Winthrop, not needing to make a single save while earning the shutout.
Girls’ soccer
St. Dom’s 1, Dirigo 0
DIXFIELD — Kayla McLellan converted a feed from Emily Poulin at the 6:04 mark of the second half to give St. Dom’s a 1-0 victory over Dirigo in a KVAC girls’ soccer matchup Wednesday.
The Cougars (1-2) outshot their opponent 16-7 but lacked the accuracy needed to prevail.
Kelly Pomerleau made 11 saves to notch the shutout, while Natasha Deroche turned aside five shots in the cage for Dirigo.
Monmouth 2, Carrabec 1
NORTH ANSON — Melissa Brassard snagged a pass from Taylor Spadafera and fired it into the net with 22 minutes into the game to lift Monmouth to a 2-1 win over Carrabec on Wednesday afternoon.
Danielle Burmann put the Mustangs (3-0) up 1-0 just seven minutes into the contest with an assist from Carly Kemp.
The Cobras (1-2) answered when Brooke Lewis tallied on a penalty kick.
Adriana Gonzales made 11 saves for Monmouth, while Macey Welch turned back 17 shots in the cage for Carrabec.
Mt. Abram 2, Winthrop 0
SALEM — Emma Houston scored Mt. Abram’s first goal and set up its second in the second half as the Roadrunners (1-0-1) shut out Winthrop, 2-0, in a girls’ soccer game Wednesday.
Houston scored in the first half without assistance. She then set up Mt. Abram’s second goal, allowing Mckenzie Tyler to score.
The Roadrunners dominated the game, outshooting the Ramblers, 17-0, and held the advantage in corners, 7-0.
Mt Abram goalie Allie Lopez, who didn’t make a save, had a quiet afternoon in net against the Ramblers (0-2-1).
