LEWISTON — A Kids First program for parents who are in the process of separating or divorcing will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 8, at Advocates for Children, 57 Birch St.

Eastern Star meeting Sept. 11

WALES — Lakeside Chapter 60, Order of the Eastern Star will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Grange-Masonic Hall, 322 Centre Road.

The evening will honor Grand Representatives and Shining Stars including the group’s own Sister Lucille Bauer, Associate Matron and Grand Representative of Wyoming, Brother Brett Jervis, Worthy Patron and Grand Representative of Mississippi, and Sister Sonia Woodrum, Worthy Matron and Grand Representative of Minnesota.

Eight members of Lakeside Chapter traveled to Electa Chapter in Bowdoinham for Electa’s Official visitation with the Grand Conductress Rebecca D. Johnson last month, and brought home the new District 4 Traveling Emblem, “Angelica.” She is a petite, platinum blonde angel doll with feathery wings and a white, hand-crocheted dress with gold trim. She will be going home with the District 4 Chapter with the most members attending the meeting.

All members of the Order are welcome to come to the meeting. There will be light refreshments afterwards.

Breastfeeding group program

AUBURN — Expectant women and breastfeeding mothers are invited to the La Leche League meeting to be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 102 Bennett Ave. This month’s discussion will focus on “The Advantages of Breastfeeding For Mother and Baby.”

Pregnancy is an ideal time to begin attending meetings, and mothers find continued attendance provides support throughout their breastfeeding experience. Babies are always welcome. All concerns about breastfeeding are welcome for discussion. For more information or breastfeeding help, call the La Leche League leader at 782-6645.

MS group plans pizza party

LEWISTON — The MS Support Group and caregivers will hold a pizza party at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the Lepage Conference Center, 99 Campus Ave. This is for both the morning and evening MS support group members.

There will be a variety of pizzas, soda and water followed by social time. Weather permitting, attendees will go to Dairy Joy at the end of the meeting. For more information, contact Andy Michaud at 784-7927.

Round Table lecture Sept. 13

BRUNSWICK — Joshua L. Chamberlain Civil War Round Table Lecture will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Curtis Memorial Library Morrell Room, 23 Pleasant St. The speaker will be Dick Simpson, on Pea Ridge.

Quilts, rugs, baked goods

DURHAM — The Durham Historical Society will hold their 6th annual Quilt and Hooked Rug Show and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Union Church/Old Durham Town Hall, Route 136.

All are welcome to view quilts and hooked rugs by local crafters. There will be homemade baked beans and brown bread available for take-out along with pies, breads, cookies and fudge.

Free admission; donations accepted. Proceeds benefit the Durham Historical Society Restoration Fund to repair and preserve the Union Church/Old Durham Town Hall, which was built in 1835 by local Baptist, Methodist and Congregationalists, hence the name Union Church.

Cherie Sargent benefit Sept. 15

LEWISTON — A Cancer Benefit for Cherie Sargent will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Lewiston Elks Lodge, 1675 Lisbon Road.

There will be live raffles for a signed Red Sox baseball, L.L. Bean kayak package, ski passes, white water rafting passes, massage and more.

Cost is $10 per person, $15 per couple.

Music will be provided by Not for Hire Band and FireWater Creek. Proceeds will go towards Sargent’s medical expenses.
