Coach: Melissa Forbes (15th year)
Last year’s record: 11-5-2, lost in Western Class B championship
Returning players: Seniors — Peyton Provencher (F), Nicole Burgess (F), Alexa Fryover (MF).
Key losses: Sam Glover (W), Whitney Ruff (W), Becca Maifeld (F), Chelsea Bourdeau (MF), Ayla Allen (MF), Mikayla White (FB), Chelsea Gauvin (FB), Sidney Yahn (SW), Emily Gallant (G).
Promising newcomers: Seniors — Vanessa Swett (G), Addy Gordon (D), McKenzie Gallant (D); Juniors — Nikki Couch (MF), Allyson Carlton (F), Ellie Hall (sweeper); Freshmen — Lexy Duguay (F), Kaitlyn Radcliffe (MF).
Outlook: Mountain Valley stunned MVC rival Spruce Mountain to reach its first-ever regional final a year ago before falling 1-0 to York. The Falcons will try to build off that experience without most of the girls responsible for the journey. Only three players are back. Burgess was the leading scorer and will be asked to lead the offense again. Fryover inherits an increased role at center midfield. Swett steps into the big shoes of Emily Gallant, now playing at Saint Joseph’s College. The two freshman should make an immediate impact. They’re a young group, but the Falcons should win their share and challenge for a playoff berth.
