LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen have approved the Girl Scouts using the auditorium room downstairs at the Treat Memorial Library one hour a week while the library is open.

The Girls Scouts have submitted a certificate of insurance, which is required when non-town functions are being held there, Town Manager Kristal Flagg said.

There may be a charge for a regional school unit program that was conducted in the auditorium last year to cover electricity and heat use, she said. RSU 73 used the room for free last year, she said.

The library’s trust account that covers maintenance of the library, including heat and electricity, is not making as much interest as it once was when the economy was better. There needs to be a fair cost set up to cover those type of expenses, she said.

Since the Girl Scouts will only use the room an hour a week while the library is open, selectmen opted Tuesday to let them use the room for free.

Flagg also told selectmen that the door to the room, closest to the stage that opens into the parking lot, has been broken for some time and needs to be repaired. The casing has also deteriorated.

The door alone will cost an estimated $1,000, she said.

There are other items that need to be done, including sealing of the chimney and painting the top of the cupola, Flagg said.

The library gets money from the town to help pay for books, personnel and other items. The Treat Maintenance Fund is supposed to cover repairs and other costs.

Flagg said Livermore Falls Library Association President Cindy Rehagen Langewisch is going to make a list of needs for the library and the two will go to the trust’s Board of Trustees at the Androscoggin Bank to see what can be done.

Selectmen Chairman Bill Demaray voiced concern over use of more money from the trust.

“If you take more money out of the trust, there will eventually not be anything left for operating costs,” he said. “They are going to have to live within their budget.”

If the trust is eventually depleted, taxpayers will most likely be asked to raise more money to run the library, he said.

“We barely have enough to operate it now,” Demaray said.
