AUBURN — Kenneth Lee Batty, 85, of Lewiston, died Sept. 6, at the Hospice House.

He was born Dec. 14, 1926, in Portland, the son of Ida and Lee Batty and was educated in Portland, graduating from Deering High School. In 1952, he married Sarah (Sally) Campbell and they were married for 55 years. She passed away on Aug. 2, 2007.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a radarman and went on to work at New England Telephone/Nynex for 43 years, retiring in 1990.

He led a very active life and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a avid skier for many years. He was a member of the National Ski Patrol and later became involved in the Handicapped Ski Program at Lost Valley in Auburn. As a member of the Telephone Pioneers, he worked with Maine Special Olympics volunteering at their winter events and assisting with maintenance work at their summer camp in Poland. He was a past member of the Lions Club and a current member of the Masons and Kora Shrine Temple.

Survivors include his daughter, Deborah McAuliffe and her husband, Joseph, of Taunton, Mass.; grandsons, Christopher and William McAuliffe of Taunton; a sister-in-law Ellen Meyers of Cape Elizabeth; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sarah; and his companion in recent years, Dayle Maxfield.
