AUBURN — Raymond O. Ellis, 84, of Minot died peacefully Sept. 9, surrounded by his family at the Hospice House after a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 25, 1927, in Ft. Edward, N.Y., the son of Earl and Florence Ellis.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa (Terry) Lemery of 63 years. He served in the U.S. Army for three years. Ray worked in the paper mill industry for many years. During his career, he was superintendent at the Lincoln Paper Mill, Diamond International in Old Town and Marcal Paper in Mechanic Falls.
After Marcal closed, he worked as a salesman traveling the New England states and the Maritimes for Ahlstrom Machinery of Glen Falls, N.Y., for several years before retiring.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 150. In his sparetime, he liked to make furniture and clocks for his family. He also loved to sing ditties and tease his grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he is survived by daughters, Linda (Brian) Carey, Susan (Cyril) Eddy and Nancy (Kevin) Twitchell; a son, John Ellis; a sister, Maureen Viault of Ft. Edward, N.Y.; grandchildren, Kimberly (Dwayne) Doucette, Kasey (Allen) Davis, Patrick Carey, Megan (Alex) Rand, Ashley (Ryan) Robbins, Kenyon (Angela) Twitchell, Kaylee Ellis and Brianna Ellis; and great-grandchildren, Kylee and Brady Doucette, Chase Robbins and Ellis Rand.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Donald; and his sister, Jean.
