DIXFIELD — Town Manager Eugene Skibitsky submitted his resignation at the beginning of the selectmen’s meeting Monday night, saying it was time to move forward.
Three of the four selectmen accepted the resignation; Chairman Malcolm Gill abstained.
Skibitsky has led the town for more than four years through many changes and challenges, including an application currently in the works for an industrial wind farm proposed for the Colonel Holman Mountain ridgeline and the development of an ordinance that would govern such development.
Several years before becoming the town manager, Skibitsky served as a selectman for the town.
His resignation will be effective Jan. 3. He told the board he plans to take all vacation time prior to that date.
Selectman Bob Withrow said he was sorry to hear of Skibitsky’s decision.
“It’s with deep regrets to hear that,” he said before accepting the resignation.
Selectman Scott Belskis motioned to accept.
Administration of the town of just over 2,500 people will also change at the beginning of the new year with the longtime treasurer Charlotte Collins who is retiring in January.
The current municipal budget includes funds to help train Collins’ successor.
Skibitsky could not be reached for further comment Monday night.
Selectmen will decide what steps to take to fill the town manager position within the next few weeks.
