TURNER — The Turner Public Library has received a $2,500 donation from Emerson Toyota of Auburn and an additional $2,500 donation from Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc.

The grants will be used to expand the library’s collection of audiobooks on CD. Library officials say audiobooks on CD are increasingly popular among commuters, students and those of limited vision who find reading difficult. The grants will allow the library to build a substantial collection that would have been impossible otherwise.

Turner Public Library officials first appealed to Emerson Toyota five years ago for help building a collection of audiobooks on CD. The company donated $1,000 to begin the conversion from cassettes. This year, Emerson owners not only made a larger donation, but also recommended the project to the Toyota Dealer Match Program.

The program enables dealer contributions to make a greater impact on the community. That program offered another $2,500. Since 1991, Toyota has contributed more than $500 million to nonprofit organizations.
