SCARBOROUGH — Dorothy C. Fraser, 87, died Monday, Sept. 10, nine months after being diagnosed with cancer. A lifelong resident of Rumford, Dot spent the last year making her home with family in Scarborough. She passed peacefully at home spending her final days with family and beloved friends.
She was born in Rumford, March 21, 1925, the daughter of Eugene and Florence (Larmey) Fraser. Dot was married Sept. 1, 1950, to Alfred “Slim” Fraser and they spent 51 happy years together prior to “Slim’s” passing in 2001.
Dot graduated from Stephens High School, Class of 1942, many of whom remained lifelong friends. She was a secretary at the Boise Cascade Paper Mill in Rumford for 19 years, followed by a similar role in the Rumford School system.
Dot loved to laugh and spend time with family and friends. She and “Slim” created a summer home at Webb Lake in Weld, that served as a gathering spot for all. Beyond her husband and children, Dot most enjoyed summers at “camp” and took great pleasure in welcoming new and old friends alike.
Dorothy is survived by a son, Andrew and his wife, Margaret, of Johnson, Vt.; a daughter, Mary McEacharn and her husband, Joseph, of Scarborough; a sister, Joan Watson and her husband, Robert, of Rumford; a niece, Pam Luce and husband, Fritz, of Dixfield; and nephews, Robert Watson and wife, Debbie, of Front Royal, Va., Thomas Watson and wife, Brenda, of Washougal, Wash., and John Watson and wife, Lori, of Vancouver, Wash.
She was predeceased by a brother, John Fraser.
