FARMINGTON — Jane Woodman will present “The History of the Farmington Village Corporation at the Farmington Historical Society meeting Monday.

It will be held in Henderson Memorial Baptist Church’s basement hall with a potluck dinner starting at 6 p.m.

Woodman, a Farmington native and longtime Farmington Village Corp. employee, has compiled the history from past books of corporation annual reports and meeting minutes, along with tales that have been passed down from board members and customers.

The corporation was chartered in 1850 to purchase a fire engine, the first for the town. The Farmington Water Co. was chartered in 1887 to bring water to the village and the two companies merged in 1901.

Woodman filled her mother’s position at the Water Department when her mother retired and has filled the role of business manager for the past 30 years. She has served on the Board of Maine Rural Water Association, a utility industry association that offers training and assistance to small water and wastewater companies.
