VFW 9150 meets Sept. 17
LEWISTON — The Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 will hold their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at the Lewiston Armory on Central Avenue.
All officers and members are encouraged to attend. The agenda includes upcoming events. Eligible veterans are encouraged to join the VFW.
Social Security assistance
AUBURN — The Social Security Administration will present a workshop on their online services at the Auburn Public Library on Sept. 20 at 9 a.m. in the computer lab.
The hands-on workshop will show how to use www.socialsecurity.gov and avoid unneeded trips to a Social Security office. Doing business with Social Security online is fast, convenient and secure. Whether you’re interested in planning your retirement, applying for benefits or learning about Social Security’s history, this workshop is for you.
Find information on an array of Social Security subjects and take advantage of their most popular services such as: estimate your retirement benefits; apply online for retirement, disability and Medicare benefits; apply for extra help with Medicare prescription drug costs; submit a change of address or phone number; start or change direct deposit; request a proof of income letter and replace a lost Medicare card.
Legion meets Sept. 20
LEWISTON — Post 22 American Legion of Lewiston will hold its monthly membership meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Lewiston Armory, Central Avenue. This is the first meeting at the armory, which will be the regular meeting place.
There will be a 50/50 drawing and door prizes will be awarded. Unit 22 Auxiliary will serve a light buffet.

Celebrate veterans Sept. 20
NEW GLOUCESTER — “The Longest Salute: Why We Celebrate Our Veterans” is the title of a talk to be given at the monthly meeting of the New Gloucester Historical Society at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, next to the Town Hall, Route 231.
The talk will be given by Steven Rogers, retired U.S. Department of Justice historian, and will cover the scope of WWII and other conflicts. It will also cover his grandfather’s service in Patton’s 3rd Army and the importance of memory.
Free and open to the public. Refreshments served. Held in conjunction with the proposed New Gloucester Veterans’ Monument.
