100 years ago, 1912
Several thousand dollars in cash dividends were given out to the members of the Co-Workers’ club of the Great Department Store, Lewiston, Friday evening. The money was handed them in the form of checks by H.A. Frees, the treasurer of the store who addressed the club as follows:
“Each day of  and each season brings its own pleasant duties especially to those who get their happiness out of their work. And at this time it is my pleasure to hand you in behalf of the board of management, 10 per cent cash dividend checks, based upon your salaries for the season ending August 1, 1912.

50 years ago, 1962
Paul E. Michaud of Lewiston, chairman of the Androscoggin County Republican Committee, today said that about 200 Republicans are expected to make the trip to Skowhegan next Saturday for a gigantic G.O.P. chicken barbecue and rally. While the details have not all been worked out yet, it’s planned that the Republicans will travel in a caravan. An auction of donated articles from all nine counties in the Second District will be conducted during the program, which features Governor John H. Reed and Second District Congressman Clifford G. McIntire, according to Second District Committee Chairman John Weston of Fryeburg.

25 years ago, 1987
The Mid-Maine Waste Action Corp. on Tuesday targeted $47 as its per-ton tipping fee for trash delivered to the energy-recovery plant in Auburn by member towns during its first year if operation under the corporation. The new tipping fee represents a $12 per-ton increase over what the towns are paying now. Concerning the remaining life of Auburn’s ash landfill in Danville, a consultant said there is probably one and one-half years left.
