JAY — Lindsey Crutchfield’s goal broke a 1-1 tie with 14 minutes remaining in the first half as Dirigo edged Spruce Mountain 2-1 in MVC girls’ soccer action Monday.
Dirigo’s Natalie Bolduc scored the game’s first goal five minutes into the half with a flick on a header, after a kick from Kayla Gaudin. Spruce Mountain’s Brittany Carrier tied the score on a corner from Hayley Doyen. Bolduc then set up Crutchfield’s game-winner to round out the scoring.
Both goalies held their opposition scoreless in the second half. Emily Keene turned away 13 shots for the Phoenix (3-4-1) while Natasha Deroche stopped 15 for the Cougars (5-2-1).
Carrabec 5, Telstar 0
BETHEL — McKayla Willette scored two first-half goals and Brook Lewis added a pair in the second half as Carrabec blanked Telstar 5-0 in girls’ soccer action.
Hanna Atwood scored a late first half goal with 21 seconds remaining in the half, giving the Cobras (2-4-1) a 3-0 advantage at the break. Macy Welch stopped all four shots she faced in the victory. Courtney Currier and Tori Ryerson combined to stop five shots in the loss for Telstar (1-5-1).
Hall-Dale 5, Winthrop 1
WINTHROP — Maura Stottler registered three goals, two in the second half, to help Hall-Dale down Winthrop 5-1 in girls’ soccer.
Stottler’s first tally of the contest for Hall-Dale (3-2-1) came just over a minute into the game on an assist from Lilly Ly. Clio Barr added a first half goal for a 2-0 halftime lead. After Stottler’s second score, Winthrop’s Amber Pritchard got the Ramblers on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal. Stottler and Dani Sweet rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs.
Hall-Dale out shot the Ramblers (1-7-1) 20-4 in the contest. Caitlin Allen turned away 14 shots for Winthrop while Olivia Maynard and Hailey Taker combined for three saves in the victory.
Buckfield 5, Pine Tree Academy 0
FREEPORT — Buckfield outshot Pine Tree Academy 28-3 and got goals from five different scorers en route to a 5-0 victory in girls’ soccer action.
Naudia Wesley, Gabby Therriault, and Bri Damon all scored first half goals for the Bucks (5-2). Dakota Warren and Alexis Bennett each netted second half scores in the win. Pine Tree’s (1-3) Allison Verrill recorded 22 saves while Taylor Smith turned away the one shot she faced.

Spruce Mountain 5, Dirigo 1
JAY — Five different scorers found the back of the net as Spruce Mountain cruised to a 5-1 triumph in MVC field hockey play Monday afternoon.
Kayla Meserve opened the scoring at the 17:14 mark on a pass from Randi Duguay. Nicole Hamblin followed with a score and senior Erin Gats scored with 6 seconds remaining in the first half for a 3-0 lead. Kelsey Wilson got the Cougars (3-4-1) within two goals to open the second half scoring. Demi Dube and Jahna Couture put game away with late goals.
Phoenix (6-1-1) goalie Kasey Richards stopped six shots while Amanda Dolloff registered 13 saves in the loss.
Boys’ soccer
Pine Tree Academy 1, Buckfield 0
FREEPORT — J.P. Goohuis scored an unassisted goal with about 15 minutes remaining as Pine Tree Academy slipped past Buckfield 1-0 in boys’ soccer.
Buckfield (3-4) outshot the Breakers (4-0) 8-6. Bucks goalie Calvin Downey had four saves in the loss.
