Members of the George Armstrong Custer Post 7, Grand Army of the Republic Association, and friends met at the grave site of Samuel L. Dwelly at the Riverside Cemetery, Lewiston, to observe the Battle of Gettysburg’s 149th anniversary July 3. Private Dwelly enlisted in D Company, Maine 17th Infantry. Dwelly was severely wounded and died on July 9, 1863. The program included invocation by Jerry DerBoghosian, Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address by Mark Vasiliauskas, Civil War poem by Donald Dube, highlights of the battle by Ronald Arneault and singing of “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” From left are Arneault, DerBoghosian, Dube and Vasiliauskas, friend.
