LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen voted to write-off $8,632 in personal property taxes from various accounts on Monday night.
Town Manager Kristal Flagg said some of the taxes were from 12 years ago.
Tax Collector Dawn Young requested the accounts be written off in a memo to selectmen. None of them are in business anymore, she wrote.
“I have sent numerous letters in the past, to no avail,” she wrote. “I don’t believe the town will ever receive payments from these people so I would like to write them off the books at this time.”
The accounts written off were: the late Virgil Toothaker, from 2002-2010 for $779.56; Valentine Nichols from 2002-2009, $934.64; Kimberly Cardwell for 2007-2010, $114.78; Gayla Ross for 2009, $138.60.
Also, Touch of Life, 2010, for $16.64; Shawn Soucy for 2010-2012, $104; and Gerard Castonguay, 2004-2012, $6,544.48.
According to Young’s memo, she spoke to Catonguay’s son and was told that Gerard Castonguay had not had the business since 2003.
“I have deleted his account for next year,” she said.
Young said in the memo she plans to send out letters to the remaining outstanding taxpayers that are still in business and may possibly take them to court this year.
