Overnight storms that brought high winds and heavy rains to Maine have left thousands without power.
Central Maine Power reports more than 10,000 customers without power Wednesday morning. The hardest hit areas were the Kennebec County communities of Winthrop, Vassalboro and Wayne.
Bangor Hydro Electric Co. reported about 8,700 outages, most in Hancock and Penobscot counties.
Bangor Hydro says crews are expected to take most of the day to fix the damage caused by high winds that downed tree limbs.
Of the 10,272 power outages reported by CMP at 9:30 a.m., 267 were in Androscoggin County, 97 in Oxford and 939 in Franklin.
The town of Wales, with 100 customers reporting no power, had the highest number of outages in Androscoggin County.
In Oxford County, Sumner, with 49, reported the highest numbers. And in Franklin County, the town of Temple had the most outages, at 239.
